Europe's cities - Community measures in urban areas
The European Commission, DG XVI, has published an information brochure outlining its activities in support of urban areas. "Europe's cities - Community measures in urban areas" provides an overview of the wide range of projects for urban development and regeneration being supported throughout the European Union. Through the Structural Funds the Community contributes to projects aimed at alleviating pollution, tackling social problems (such as poor housing, unemployment, etc.), improving infrastructure (public transport) and generally contributing to improving the living environment of Europe's cities (creation of green spaces, noise reduction, etc.). The brochure sets out the main challenges facing Europe's cities at the dawn of the 21st century and examines the prospects for the future.
