The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender for technical coordination of air quality and related modelling for the Auto Oil II programme. The Commission is seeking to appoint a contractor who can provide the necessary technical liaison to support the functions of the Working Group on "Environmental Objectives" set up under the Commission's Auto Oil II Programme (AOPII). The contractor will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of data and reports in good time and in line with the modelling requirements of the AOPII cost-effectiveness analysis. The tasks of the contractor will include: - (i) Advising the Commission on the implications of the cost-effectiveness analysis; - (ii) Providing assistance to the air quality modelling exercises (urban air quality, generic cities, regional air quality) with the aim of ensuring compatibility, identifying and resolving problems of technical coordination; - (iii) Ensuring compatibility of emission inventories; - (iv) Ensuring consistency of emission projection forecasts; - (v) Collating and refining available data on costs and effects of emission-reduction measures from sources "other than road transport"; - (vi) Drafting air-quality report; - (vii) If required, carrying out some integrated assessment analyses in order to quantify sectoral emission-reduction targets; - (viii) Advising the Commission on other related technical or operational matters as requested. The contract will start immediately following signature and will last for the length of the programme (currently planned to finish in September 1998).
