EU support for industrial conversion in Luxembourg
The European Commission has approved aid of ECU 13.6 million from the Community's Structural Funds to go towards support of industrial conversion in the region between Esch-sur-Alzette and Capellen in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The aid is linked to two Community initiatives aimed at assisting diversification of the economy in areas dependent on the iron and steel industry (RESIDER) and on the defence industry (KONVER). It is hoped that the Luxembourg programme will enable the creation of approximately 460 direct jobs and 30 indirect jobs, as well as safeguarding the more than 3,000 existing jobs in these sectors.
