TEMPUS Guide for Applicants - TACIS 1998-1999
The European Commission, DG XXII, has published an updated Guide for Applicants relating to the TEMPUS programme for cooperation in higher education with the TACIS partner countries for the academic year 1998-1999. TEMPUS-TACIS provides financial grants for cooperative projects between higher education establishments in the EU and the partner countries in the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union and Mongolia. Projects are carried out in priority areas defined by the partner countries' authorities and the Commission. The new Guidelines for Applicants set out the priority areas to be supported in each country in the next academic year. Under the programme, universities in the TACIS countries establish projects in cooperation with partner institutions from the EU which supply know-how and experience. Projects are aimed at restructuring and developing curricula and teaching materials, upgrading teaching facilities, and improving university administration in the TACIS countries. Two types of projects are funded: three-year Joint European Projects (JEPs); and two-year Compact Projects.
