Innovation & Technology Transfer, March 2003: Thinking new by sharing experiencies

Meeting the ambitious targets set by the Union to improve economic competitiveness will require concerted action throughout Europe, from national and regional governments, and from private and public sectors.

In a guest article, Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin talks about the efforts, which will be required (page 5) and the importance of research in improving Europes innovation performance.
EU-supported Innovation projects aim to identify barriers to innovation (aside from technological barriers), and develop solutions which may be passed on to other organisations faced with similar barriers. By clustering these projects, the Commission has hoped to improve their ability to communicate with people from different fields. As our dossier shows (page 10), these clusters can bring added insights, from fresh eyes and different perspectives.
The latest Innobarometer survey shows the importance attached to co-operation between firms (page 19), presenting the results of a survey of 3,000 managers from European companies.
