aceMedia goes live
aceMedia started on 1st January 2004, with a kick-off meeting held in Basingstoke, UK on January 26th and now a new public web site was launched for the broader community to have access to and live updates about the on-going aceMedia activity (http://www.aceMedia.org(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie)). aceMedia integrates knowledge, semantics and content for user centred intelligent media services. It is the first time that a consortium of experts on such a scale have been brought together to allow Europe to acquire a leadership role in methods of derivation, application, and exploitation of knowledge as applied to content processing, communication and consumption, which are technologies central to the knowledge economy. This knowledge economy of research, innovative tools, and standards is to create feasible and compelling access to content with intelligence. The main technological objectives of aceMedia supporting the knowledge economy are to discover and exploit knowledge inherent to the content in order to make content more relevant to the user; to automate annotation at all levels; and to add functionality to ease content creation, transmission, search, access, consumption and re-use. The central concept of aceMedia is the idea of an Autonomous Content Entity (ACE). An ACE has three layers: the content itself, its associated metadata, and an "intelligence" layer, consisting of distributed functions that enable the content to instantiate itself according to its context including its network environment, the user terminal, and recorded user preferences. aceMedia will follow and exploit the knowledge ecosystem market around semantic web technologies introducing for the first time functionalities (analysis, reasoning, querying) for multimedia content to make intelligent media available to many different users in the home, on the move and at the workplace; making intelligent content communication a possibility for all walks of life; and meeting social, cultural and business needs. The aceMedia consortium invites other EU consortiums and organisations that are contributing to the growth of the knowledge economy in Europe to join us at http://www.aceMedia.org(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie).
