American and European best practices in transfer of science and technology

A seminar on "American and European best practices in the transfer of science and technology" will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on 4 and 5 June 1998. The event is organized by Science Alliance and the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).
Universities play a key role in pushing innovation, although successful technological implementation of new knowledge also requires input from commercial parties. Optimizing innovation therefore requires fruitful and efficient cooperation between universities and industry.
This event follows on from the successful seminar in 1997, when the AUTM presented a number of examples of best practice in this field to European universities, industry and governments. The 1998 event is intended to be much more interactive, in that in addition to presentations from the US, European organizations will also be presenting their examples of best practice in technology transfer.
The first day will provide a general overview of actual university and industry strategies for science and technology transfer. The second day's sessions will look in depth at the way start-up companies can be spun of from universities and how private capital can facilitate this.
