European expertise in Telemedicine

The European Health Telematics Observatory (EHTO) will organize a conference on Telemedicine, to be held during EXPO'98, in Lisbon, Portugal, on 14 September 1998. The EHTO is a support action in the health and industry sector, funded under the EU's Telematics Applications programme, to collect and disseminate information in the field of health telematics.
The purpose of the conference is to demonstrate a set of top-level telemedicine applications, in different clinical domains, within their real environment. Technical support from participating medical doctors will also be provided in order to allow conference participants to use the applications demonstrated.
A total of five European telemedicine demonstrations will be presented, three of which have been co-funded by the EU. Telemedicine applications such as the Portuguese Telecardiology and the German TeleDiabetes will be demonstrated, as well as applications from Finland, France and Greece. The presentations to be delivered during the conference will include a presentation on telemedicine and the Fifth Framework Programme, by a representative of the European Commission, and a presentation on "Telemedicine in the 21st century".
