New roads ahead for Europe's libraries

A pan-European colloquium considering the role of libraries in the networked Information Society will be held in Frankfurt, Germany, on 6 October 1998. The colloquium will also discuss the results of projects funded under the EU's Telematics for Libraries programme, launched in 1990, which has funded over 100 research projects.
The conference entitled "Beyond the old limits - new roads ahead for Europe's libraries" will discuss the contribution of libraries and their partners to the development of the Information Society under five headings:
- Science;
- Information Society and citizens;
- Literature;
- Infrastructure;
- Services.
The colloquium will end with a panel discussion with representatives from industry, library federations, academia and the European Commission, DG XIII.
