Intelligent manufacturing systems

The second international workshop on intelligent manufacturing systems (IMS) will be held in Leuven, Belgium, from 22 to 24 September 1999. The workshop will be organised by the IMS working group which aims to develop links and promote information exchange between teams researching different aspects of intelligent manufacturing. The working group is supported by the European Commission under the specific RTD programme in the field of Information Technologies (ESPRIT).

The workshop aims to create a forum for discussing information technologies in manufacturing and to create a forum in which the criteria for excellence are tailored to the industrial need to tackle real-life complexity with advanced information technology. The conference organisers are currently seeking papers for presentation during the conference on the following topics:

- Manufacturing paradigms;
- Multi-agent systems in manufacturing;
- Holonic manufacturing systems;
- Manufacturing and shop floor control;
- Process and production planning;
- One of a kind production;
- Product life-cycle modelling and simulation;
- Concurrent engineering;
- Re-manufacturing modelling and simulation;
- Environmentally benign design and manufacturing;
- Products, processes and organisation for competitive and sustainable growth;
- Virtual and extended enterprises;
- Human aspects in manufacturing;
- Training and education in manufacturing.
