Health and safety research

The European Commission, DG V, will organise a conference in Luxembourg, from 5 to 8 July 1999, to present the results of research carried out within the relevant programmes of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) on a wide range of topics related to health and safety issues. The conference marks the 45th anniversary of ECSC research and aims to encourage the transfer of the results obtained, which have contributed to the development of a prevention culture in Europe, to other industrial sectors.

During the conference European experts will present a synthesis of the main results obtained during health and safety research in the following domains:

- Ergonomics;
- Health in the workplace;
- Safety;
- Pollution in the iron and steel industry;
- Hygiene in coal mines.

An exhibition will be open in parallel to the conference where businesses and research centres which have participated in the research programmes will be exhibiting their research results, equipment, software, measuring instruments, and other tools for the application of the research results obtained.
