BEM 21, the twenty-first world conference on the Boundary Element Method will be held in Oxford, Britain, from 25 to 27 August 1999. The conference will focus on major advances in the solution of complex fluid dynamics problems, and the method's use in high performance computing and as an analysis and design tool. It will provide researchers with the opportunity to present and discuss their ideas with a large number of established practitioners and a prize will be awarded to the best paper presented at the conference by a delegate younger than 35 years old.

The International Society of Boundary Elements and members of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Engineering Analysis will also meet during this conference. The organisers of BEM 21 are currently inviting the submission of papers for presentation at the event. The following themes are of interest to the conference:

- Elastodynamics
- Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue
- Inelastic Problems
- Composite Materials
- Plates and Shells
- Contact Mechanics
- Geomechanics
- Material Processing and Metal Forming
- Soil Dynamics
- Electromagnetics
- Biomechanics
- Fundamental Principles
- Computational Techniques
- Refinement and Adaptive Techniques
- Sensitivity analysis
- Inverse Problems
- Applications in Optimization
- Industrial Applications
- Heat transfer
- Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamics
- Compressible and Incompressible Flow
- Viscous and Non Newtonian Flow
- Groundwater Flow
- Interfacial and Free Surface Flow
- Transport Problems
