Darwin and Evolution: the Past, the Present and the Future

In 2009, ESF-COST joins the world in celebrating Charles Darwin with a multidisciplinary high-level conference in September 2009. Closing date for applications, including abstract submissions is 3 July 2009.

15 Września 2009 - 20 Września 2009
Austria
This year marks the bicentennial of his birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of 'On the Origin of Species', a book that has influenced, inspired, and informed nearly every scientific discipline.

Darwin's reach has only grown longer in recent decades, as advances in genetics have identified evidence of evolution working in DNA and revealed molecular mechanisms at which natural selection happens.

To celebrate this, ESF-COST are launching a multidisciplinary High-Level Conference at which historians, molecular biologists, neuroscientists, philosophers, and members of the Royal Society have accepted to speak.

The scientific programme will be enlightened by debates such as: “Why evolution is right and creationism and intelligent design are wrong”.

The conference will take place between 15 and 20 September 2009 in Sant Feliu de Guixols, on the Spanish Costa Brava.

Closing date for applications (as well as abstract submissions) is 3 July 2009.

Financial Support
Some grants are available for young researchers to cover the conference fee and possibly part of the travel costs. Grant requests should be made by ticking appropriate field(s) in the paragraph "Grant application" of the application form. For further information and applications, please visit:
