Oceanography conference features eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea

An international conference on the oceanography of the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea is to be held in Athens between 23 and 26 February 1999. The event is aimed to increase the exchange of information between scientists and researchers who study the similarities and differences of these two interconnected basins. It is also intended as a follow-up to the International Year of the Ocean, and to promote coordination and cooperation between researchers to avoid duplication of research methods.

Another objective of the event is to enhance the interface between research and policy to make the most effective use of scientific results.

The conference will comprise plenary presentations, poster sessions and plenary discussions.

The conference is being organised by The Institute of Oceanography, at the National Centre for Marine Research, Athens. It is co-sponsored by The European Commission and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO.
