The third European Land-Ocean Interaction Studies (ELOISE) open science meeting will be held in Noorwijkerhout, The Netherlands, between 1 and 4 December 1999.

The ELOISE project cluster is the largest concerted effort in coastal zone science in the world. It consists of 30 projects sponsored by the European Commission within the Marine Science and Technology (MAST) and Environment and Climate Programmes.

The scientific programme for this meeting will include keynote speeches, plenary lectures, and thematic sessions with lectures and discussions about the ELOISE themes, including:

- Unifying concepts in coastal ecology and management;
- Dramatic shifts in community structure;
- Coupling of reaction and transport models;
- Modelling structural changes in ecosystems;
- Nitrogen in coastal ecosystems;
- Socio-economic impact of fluxes of pollutants (ELOISE/LOICZ (Land-ocean interaction in the Coastal Zone));
- Continental aquatic systems: the basin approach (ELOISE/LOICZ).

The meeting is sponsored by the European Commission, the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (LOICZ), and the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences.
