Conference in French: Philae/Rosetta, in the context of solar system space exploration by Jean-Pierre BIBRING

Summary :
In a few decades, space exploration has dramatically modified our vision of the origin and evolution of planetary worlds, both within the solar system and beyond. The diversity of evolutionary pathways is now scrutinized in terms of the enabling processes and ingredients, generic as such, specific in their forms. Specifically, the question of unicity of Earth, in space and time scales, as well as of the life it harbors, is being profoundly revisited, challenging the ancient, and still popular concept of 'plurality of worlds'. Comets have preserved unique records of the 'initial conditions' of solar system evolution: the prime goal of Rosetta, and of its lander Philae, is to decipher some of them. This is the context in which we propose to present and discuss this spectacular ongoing mission.
