Since mid-March, APRE (the Agency for Promotion and European Research) and the Ministry for Universities and Scientific Research in Italy have been running an information campaign relating to the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) for Research, Technological development and Demonstration (RTD).

This initiative is based on a series of information days, taking place throughout Italy and designed to present the various thematic and horizontal programmes of FP5. The objective of the meetings is to present the opportunities and the methods for participating in Community RTD to companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), universities, public and private research bodies, local government, and other participants in the Italian research and innovation system.

During each of these days, there is a session during which speakers are available for individual meetings with the participants, who can then discuss their ideas and projects.

The calendar of events is as follows:

- 16 April 1999, FP5 Horizontal Programme "Promotion of Innovation and Encouragement of SMEs", University of Ancona;
- 23 April 1999, "Competitive and Sustainable growth", Brindisi - PASTIS;
- 27 April 1999, "Energy, Environment and Sustainable Growth, Section A: Environment and Sustainable Growth", University of Reggio Calabria;
- 28 April 1999, "Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources", University of Parma;
- 4 May 1999, "Confirming the International Role of Community Research", University of Udine;
- 12 and 13 May 1999, "Contractual and management aspects", Rome - Confindustria.

The programmes of these information days will be published on the APRE website at:
