Young researchers in chemistry and in industrial chemical processes are invited to apply to the Summer School on Green Chemistry to be held in Venice, Italy, between 6 and 12 September 1999.

This is the second of a series of three events, organized by the Italian Interuniversity Consortium "Chemistry for the Environment" (INCA) within Activity 4 of the European Union's Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) Programme.

Eligible participants are young graduate, postgraduate and industrial researchers, in academia or industry, resident in one of the European Union member countries, and under 35 years of age. Admitted applicants will receive full scholarships, which include travel, room and board.

The event is aimed to provide graduate students and young researchers with the appropriate scientific and technological know-how to approach pollution prevention from a chemical point of view. Lectures will be informal presentations by recognized experts.

This year, the Summer School will emphasize:

- Clean Chemical Processes;
- Alternative Solvents in Synthesis;
- Photochemistry;
- Catalysis;
- New Reactions;
- New Feedstocks and Products.

A poster session will feature awards for excellence in research in green chemistry, and interactive discussion sessions.

Green chemistry research policies and research funding will also be addressed, with the participation of representatives from the European Commission.
