Life Week planned for October

The European Commission is planning to hold its 'Life Week' conference and exhibition in Brussels from 20 to 23 October 1999.

Life is a European financial instrument dedicated to the environment. It has been operating since 1992, and from 1996 to 1999 has a budget of 450 million euro to spend in three areas, which are:

- Life-Nature (conservation of natural habitats, wild fauna and flora);
- Life-Environment (demonstration of innovative environmental techniques and methods to solve environmental problems);
- Life-Third Countries (actions in the environmental sector in some countries around the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas).

Life Week will provide a forum for disseminating information about Life projects and their results. It is hoped to raise awareness of the potential and role of the Life programme, and to share information about experiences gained from projects supported by Life.

The week is also intended to be of benefit to national and local authorities who might use information from Life-funded projects to help develop their own environmental policies.

Life Week is aimed to bring together beneficiaries of Life-supported projects, social and economic partners, local and national authorities and European Institutions.
