Eurogi, the European umbrella organisation for geographic information (GI), has decided to participate in national and regional GI conferences by hosting its own sessions. These will begin at the Nordic GI-Conference in Lund, Sweden to be held between 20 and 22 October 1999, arranged by GI Norden and ULI, the Swedish Development Council for Land Information.

The Eurogi aim of a European infrastructure for GI will be promoted at the conference, which will disseminate information and establish contacts between persons, enterprises and organisations interested in GI.

There will be two Eurogi sessions on 21 October. The first, 'using geographic information in Europe', will consider the value of GI for society and how GI standards and information can be circulated. The second, 'the European geographic information infrastructure', will discuss GI2000, the presence of GI in the Fifth Framework Programme and the European implications of this summer's French parliamentary mission on GI.

Other topics to be addressed include GIS in Europe, metadata, the European projects ESMI and LaClef standardisation, benefits of GIS, GIS from a management perspective, public safety, GI on the Internet, analysis with GIS, GIS in business and Nordic cooperation with GI.
