Worldwide online education discussed online

Global leaders in distance education from more than 70 countries will have the opportunity to discuss the future of online education thanks to a 24 hour webcast organised by the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Global Education and INTERVU Inc, the leading service provider for Internet audio and video delivery solutions.

The event aims to show that education and training can now be affordably delivered to every corner of the globe via the Internet. One of the highlights of the day will be a special stop in Kosovo for an online conference where educators and students will discuss the reconstructing of their education system.
'There are more than 100,000 college courses currently online - a number that is expected to grow to over one million within five years,' said John Hibbs, director of the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Global Education. 'Our event is a convincing demonstration that students in Boston can take courses from Bombay.'
Keynote addresses will be given by Vinton Cerf, the 'father of the Internet', Dr Robin Mason of the Open University in England, the largest provider of distance education in the world, and US Senator Conrad Burns, chairman of the subcommittee on communications.
