Consolidating the European Library Space

The Information Society Directorate-General is hosting a concertation meeting to bring together participants in the Libraries sector of the Telematics Applications programme. 'Consolidating the European Library Space' will be held in Luxembourg from 17 to 19 November 1999.
As the Telematics Applications programme draws to a close and libraries become integrated under the IST programme of the Fifth Framework Programme, this event plans to mark the transition by reviewing the achievements of the Libraries sector by evaluating the results, and looking at new alliances, and at key issues facing the European Information Society.
The event is targeted at those who participated in the Third and Fourth Framework Programmes, at the European library community, and related Fifth Framework Programme projects.
There will be keynote speeches on the key issues of the Libraries sector; accessing the future - new media literacy in the Information Society; the converging worlds of libraries, archives and museums; new synergies between national and European library policies; opportunities for cooperation with Central and Eastern Europe; and the future role of the cultural heritage sector in the IST Programme.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to choose between a workshop on skills update or a knowledge update session.
