Technological development in the Balkans tops the bill at the InfoBulgaria 2000 conference taking place in Sofia on 2 and 3 June 2000. Over 50 companies from Austria, Bulgaria and Greece will meet at the business partnership and technology brokerage event for the information and communication technologies and industrial automation sectors.

On the same dates, the Sofia-based Applied Research and Communications Fund (which is co-organising InfoBulgaria 2000 with Austrian and Greek partners) is also organising a Southeast Europe Forum on e-commerce - a meeting of policy-makers, industry professionals and researchers from the Balkan countries, the European Union, and the United States. Participants will discuss the impact of the Internet and e-commerce as driving forces of economic growth and societal development. Special focus will be given to the 'digital divide' between north and south, the legal and regulatory framework of e-commerce, the relationship between government and e-commerce and the promotion of e-business opportunities in the countries of Southeast Europe.
