The Centre of renewable energy sources and the Regional energy agency of Crete are organising a workshop on 'Energy from waste - environmental and agricultural advantages'. The workshop will be held in Crete, Greece, on 17 April 2000 when researchers will present possible ways of exploiting biogas produced in livestock units, olive oil mills, sewage treatment plants and sanitary landfills for energy purposes.

The workshop will aim to:

- raise potential users' awareness of the energy exploitation of biogas (individuals involved in medium-large livestock units, municipal sewage treatment plants, sanitary landfills and food processing industries, as well as consultants and scientists);

- facilitate information exchange and presentation of the problems faced by existing biogas plants in Greece;

- help enhancement of new business opportunities in Greece and especially in Crete.

The Workshop is organised by the ALTENER Waste for Energy Network (WfE - Nett) Phase V project and is financed by the European Commission's ALTENER Programme.
