A call for papers has been made for the forthcoming conference 'Policy agendas for sustainable technological development' in London, UK from 1 to 3 December.

The conference intends to look at policies for sustainable technological innovation and research. Areas which will be analysed at the conference include looking at how the policy making environment may have to adapt to take in an increasing number of factors (environmental, ethical, socio-economic) before deciding on what policies will lead to a sustainable future.

In view of this, the conference organisers are making a call for papers on the following topics:

- socially acceptable technological innovation: Quality of life, ethics and policy;

- economically acceptable technological innovation: The 'real world' of discharging political responsibility;

- environmentally acceptable technological innovation: urban, industrial, residential and rural habitats;

- national, European and global policymaking environments: who benefits, who pays, and who decides?

- democratisation of policymaking processes: How can society and the natural environment best be heard?

- future challenges for sustainable innovation.

Papers should be submitted before September 15 2000.
