A business and investment forum for renewable energy sources in the Arab region will be held in the Sultanate of Oman from 12 to 14 November 2000.

The forum aims to develop the use of renewable energy sources in the Arab region; to improve and disseminate information on the renewable energy programmes and projects currently being developed; identify and promote the implementation of new ones; and create a framework that favours the contacts and relationships among project promoters, financiers and implementers as well as industrialists, to stimulate and encourage investment opportunities in the field.

The confernce's provisional programme sessions include:

- national, regional and international renewable energy sources (RES) programmes;
- implementation of the national and sub regional projects;
- investment and financing RES Projects in the Arab region;
- case studies: experiences, institutional and legal framework;
- the technological market and business opportunities;
- opportunities for the development of the RES market;
- experiences in financing RES projects and micro-financing mechanisms.

And round tables are planned for the following topics:

- transfer of technologies and exchange of experiences: best practices;
- the role of the different actors in the financing of RES projects: institutions, private companies, users and professional associations.

Time will be set aside for pre-arranged business contacts every day and technical visits are planned on the 15th November.

The event is supported by the European Commission within the Fifth Framework programme and is organised by a consortium of European partners, led by the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME), together with UNESCO.
