Scientists from various disciplines and different parts of the world will come together in Edinburgh, Scotland on 24 to 28 June to take a fresh look at how the Earth and other planets work.

The meeting will be co-convened by the Geological Society of London (GSL) and the Geological Society of America (GSA).

'This will be a new adventure for us as we are going out of our way to break down discipline barriers and have everyone from the hammer-wielding geologist to the astrobiologist talk to each other,' explained technical programme co-chairs Ian Dalziel (University of Texas) and Ian Fairchild (Keele University).

The programme includes sessions on coupling between the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere, critical transitions in earth history and their causes and the snowball Earth hypothesis
