The European Group on Ethics in science and new technologies (EGE) is holding a round table debate on the ethical aspects of patenting innovations using human stem cells in Brussels on 20 November.

The topic will be discussed with scientific experts, lawyers, philosophers and representatives from the European Parliament, international organisations, patient, industry and religious representatives and other interested parties.

The EGE, an independent advisory group of the European Commission, which advises European institutions on the ethical implications of science and new technologies, is currently preparing an Opinion on the ethical aspects of patenting inventions involving human stem cells.
