JRC promotes accession country participation in European Research Area

The JRC's aim is to build up contacts and networks in accession countries, and increase awareness of the research opportunities available under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
The centre has already been working closely with Hungarian partners on issues of particular relevance to accession countries, such as the industrial safety, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food and nuclear fuel security. Participants in Budapest will hear details of these collaborations, but the event also aims to promote a more general involvement in European research.
The work of the JRC focuses on three core competences seen as vital to the interests of EU citizens: food and chemical safety, the environment, and nuclear safety and security. These main areas are supported by complementary activities in technology foresight, reference materials and metrology, and public security and anti-fraud techniques.
All of the JRC's work is now open to the involvement of scientists and organisations from Hungary. Individuals can apply for positions at all levels within the centre's institutes, and funds are available for short-term visits. Accession country researchers are welcomed as partners across the full range of JRC activities on the same basis as EU Member State organisations.
The final session at the information day will focus on ERA and FP6, where Hungarian participants will learn of the full range of opportunities for participation in the new framework programme and for cooperation with the JRC.For further information, please consult the following web addresses:
