The biological research centre of Szeged is hosting an international symposium entitled 'neurobiology of ageing: molecular approaches' from 7 to 8 March in Szeged, Hungary. The search for new molecules which promote healthy ageing and reverse age-dependent alterations of nervous functions represents a real challenge for biomedical research in the European Community. This symposium aims to provide an overview of the neurobiology of ageing, investigate the role of steroids in age-related changes of the nervous system, and to explore their therapeutic usefulness for reversing age-associated cognitive deficits, depression, neuronal atrophy and myelin abnormalities under a multidisciplinary approach. The event is open to PhD students, to the participants of the international training course, and to the representatives of small and medium-sized European biotech enterprises. In addition to courses and seminars, keynote speakers from across Europe have been invited to give presentations, and a round table will take place on the subject of: 'disorders in development and ageing caused by aberrant steroid signalling'.For further information, please contact: Dr Valérie Serval, INSERM U 488 80 rue du Général Leclerc 94276 Le Kremlin Bicetre, France E-mail: serval@kb.inserm.fr
