Applying science to animal welfare

A global conference on animal welfare, which will address the application of science to the well being of animals, will take place in Paris, France, from 23 to 25 February 2004.
EU Health and Consumer Protection Commissioner David Byrne will attend the event, which the European Commission is helping to organise in collaboration with the international office of epizooties (OIE).
The conference will include discussions on the application of science in the following fields:
- management, handling and transport;
- pain, fear and distress;
- injury and disease:
