Workshop on the conservation of brick masonry monuments

A workshop on the conservation of brick masonry monuments will take place in Louvain, Belgium, on 24-26 October 1994.
The event is being organized as part of the European Commission's Environment programme and is intended to contribute to the establishment of a European network of research teams which currently participate in Community-funded environment research. It will also review on-going research on diagnosis and pathology of brick and masonry monuments. Two diagnostic tools which are currently under development, the brick masonry damage atlas for monuments and the brick masonry diagnostic expert system for monuments, will be examined.
The research projects which will be presented at the conference include:
- Expert systems for evaluating the deterioration of ancient brick structures;
- Non-destructive testing and system identification to evaluate the diagnostic methods and reinforcements techniques applied to historical buildings;
- Interactive physical weathering and bio-receptivity as a potent non-destructive research tool.
