A conference on "Certification in enterprises" will be held on 17 October 1994 in Paris. It is organized by DG III and DG XIII of the European Commission in collaboration with Sources d'Europe, the French Information Centre on Europe.

The aim of the conference is to:

- Underline the importance of certification measures in the implementation of the single market (notably for the elimination of obstacles to the free circulation of products and for market access) and the role of the European Commission, in collaboration with the Member States, in the conception and use of certification measures;

- Hold an exchange of views on the conceptual and practical aspects of quality and certification measures in the single market.

The following topics will be discussed:

- Certification measures and the European market:
. Regulatory aspects;
. Voluntary aspects (old, new and global approaches, national practices, CE marking);
. Access to markets in third countries;

- The state of the art with regard to:
. Infrastructure;
. Organizations;
. Relations with SMEs;
. The "Euromanagement" initiative;

- Emergence of a new quality culture.
