A two-day symposium on the perspectives for a renewable raw material in the 21st century, STARCH'96, will take place in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands, from 7 to 8 October 1996. It is organized by the Netherlands Institute for Carbohydrate Research, with support from the European Community's FAIR programme for agriculture and fisheries (DG XII).

STARCH'96 will provide a forum for scientists and R&D managers to discuss the state of the art of research activities and applications related to starch. In particular, the following topics will be examined:

- Starch in the 21st century;
- Biotechnological modification;
- Starch production/new crops;
- New starch derivatives;
- Structure and properties.
