A conference on computational science for the 21st century will be held in Tours, France, from 5 to 7 May 1997. The conference is organized by INRIA, the "Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique", with support from the European Community's BRITE/EURAM specific RTD programme in the field of Industrial and Materials Technologies.

The aim of the conference is to define the state of the art in computational science and assess its impact on emerging technologies. The development of computational science is expected to have an increasing influence in a wide range of fields such as engineering, physical and biological sciences and even on social and economic sciences.

The conference will bring together experts in all these fields, and will feature a mixture of abstract and theoretical presentations and applied and practical demonstrations. Papers will be given by invited speakers, but participants may display posters or Web pages outlining their research in the field.
