A European workshop on "Current and potential distribution in complex electrochemical systems" will be held in Nancy, France, on 29 August 1997. The workshop is being organized as a satellite event of the 48th meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry. It is supported by the European Commission within the framework of the BRITE/EURAM programme for R&D in the field of Industrial and Materials Technologies.

Many electrochemical processes (such as plating, etching or electrosynthesis) or systems (electrolysers, batteries or fuel cells) have complex electrode geometries and involve multi-component electrolytes. In such cases, sophisticated techniques are required for the prediction of current and potential distributions. Further complications arise from edge effect, thermal phenomena, electrode growth, etc.

The one-day workshop aims to provide a forum for interactive discussion of analytical, numerical and experimental approaches to current and potential distributions. The different approaches discussed will be compared with respect to their advantages and drawbacks. The workshop is the result of a recently completed multi-partner BRITE/EURAM project.
