Seismic risk - prevention, protection and management

The first in a series of Euroconferences on the control and management of natural risks will be held on Spetse Island, Greece, from 29 September to 4 October 1997. The event is supported by the Community's Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme under the Euroconferences activity.

The theme of the conference is "Seismic risk - prevention, protection and management". In common with the other events planned in the series, the conference will take a multi-disciplinary approach, combining presentations on the knowledge of natural phenomena, the identification of associated risks, and the means of anticipation, prevention and protection, and especially management and emergency management of those risks.

Further conferences in the series will address volcanic risk, cyclones and storms, flash flow and flooding, and landslides. A final conference will allow a global study of the management of all major natural risks. The conferences are aimed at researchers and engineers from both public and private sectors, as well as representatives of companies in relevant fields.
