The 20th annual IDATE (Institut de l'Audiovisuel et des Télécommunications en Europe) conference will be held in Montpellier, France, on 20 and 21 November 1997. The theme will be "20 years or the prehistory of cyberspace".
IDATE is best known for its analyses of developments in European telecommunications and the Information Society. Its twentieth anniversary annual conference provides an opportunity to look back at the major developments in these fields in the past 20 years. Leading personalities involved in these developments will describe their perspective on the technological and societal developments. The closing speech will be given by Mr Martin Bangemann, European Commissioner for telecommunications and the Information Society. There will also be a seminar on the economic performance and social implications of the Information Society.
