The ACTINIDES'97 International Conference will take place in Baden Baden, Germany, from 21 to 26 September 1997. The conference, organized by the Institute for Transuranium Elements, part of the EU's Joint Research Centre, will cover all recent developments in the physics, chemistry, biochemistry and technology of actinides.

The aim of the conference is to define areas in which essential information is still fragmentary or missing in order to identify lines of research for the future. The conference programme will include four plenary lectures, 31 invited papers, 74 contributed oral papers and approximately 200 poster presentations. The main topics to be covered will be:

- Actinide detection, monitoring, analysis and characterization;
- Biochemistry of the actinides;
- Coordination chemistry/organometallics;
- Environmental remediation, waste management and actinide migration;
- Heavy element research;
- High-pressure and high-temperature properties;
- Magnetism;
- Nuclear technology and applications/thermodynamic properties;
- Solution chemistry, including thermodynamic aspects;
- Spectroscopy.
