Interfaces in environmental chemistry and toxicology

The eighth annual meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC-Europe) will take place in Bordeaux, France, from 14 to 18 April 1998. The aim of the conference is to bring together the various disciplines represented within the Society to ensure that divisions are broken down, therefore improving environmental scientists' ability to address complex problems.
The main theme of the meeting will be the fundamental importance of interfaces to environmental sciences and environmental scientists. It will explore the role and functioning of interfaces at all levels, from exchanges between the oceans and the atmosphere, to transfers at the cellular and sub-cellular levels. Apart from the main theme, sessions will address all aspects of environmental toxicology and chemistry, from testing and method development, through risk assessment, to policy. During the sessions, the results of several projects supported by the EU's Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) research programme will be presented.
As well as poster sessions and platform sessions, there will also be the opportunity for participants to attend short courses on subjects such as:
- Hazard assessment of contaminated sediment;
- Ecophysiology in aquatic ecotoxicology;
- Multivariate statistical analysis in ecotoxicology;
- Application of GIS for the assessment of ecosystem sensitivity to acidic deposition;
- Bioindicators and biomarkers.
