SOFT'98 - Symposium on Fusion Technology

The 1998 SOFT Symposium on Fusion Technology will take place in Marseilles, France, from 7 to 11 September 1998. Part of a biennial series started in 1960 within the framework of EU's integrated programme on Controlled Thermonuclear Fusion, the symposium is organized by the major national European laboratories.

The SOFT events, which include an industrial exhibition, as well as the traditional oral and poster presentations, are aimed at promoting the exchange of information on the design, construction and operation of fusion experiments and on the technology being developed for the "Next Step" devices and fusion reactors.

Topics to be addressed at SOFT'98 will include:

- Plasma facing components;
- Plasma heating and current drive;
- Plasma engineering and control;
- Experimental systems and diagnostics;
- Magnets and power supplies;
- Fuel technologies;
- Remote operations;
- Blanket and shield technologies;
- Safety and environment;
- System engineering and future devices.
