European health telematics - Research results

A conference on "Innovative solutions for health care and health care management" will be held in London, UK, on 6 April 1998. The event is being organized by the Institute of European Trade and Technology (IETT) in cooperation with DG XIII of the European Commission and the UK Department of Health.

The conference, which is aimed at senior decision-makers and professionals involved in the health and health care services sectors, will demonstrate new state-of-the-art technologies and processes emerging from the Health Telematics sector of the Fourth RTD Framework Programme's Telematics Applications programme. Six recently completed Health Telematics projects will be presented, covering the following themes:

- Decision support systems for medical procedures and therapies;
- New support systems for clinical decision-making in anaesthesia and intensive therapy;
- Edifact messaging and multimedia services for better coordination of health care services;
- Using smartcards in emergency situations;
- Telematic solutions for health data protection;
- Multimedia interfaces offering multilingual terminologies and nomenclature for clinicians.

The seminar will also include a session on the forthcoming TEN-Telecom call for proposals and the related applications for healthcare.
