Periodic Reporting for period 3 - PJ37-W3 ITARO (INTEGRATED TMA, AIRPORT AND RUNWAY OPERATIONS)
Okres sprawozdawczy: 2023-01-01 do 2023-06-30
The project was structured such that it developed and validated the following three SESAR-Solution tracks:
• Solution-track PJ.37-W3-01 Integrated Runway Throughput and Terminal Efficiency (VLD-like), consisting of two sub-solution-tracks (01A - Arrival Operations & 01B - Departure Operations), with high level objective:
- The integration of a series of individually validated solutions in SESAR 1 and SESAR 2020 Wave 1 contributing to increasing runway throughput, environmental sustainability and terminal airspace efficiency.
• Solution-track PJ.37-W3-02 Complement of PJ.07-W2-39 Collaborative framework managing delay constraints on arrivals with high level objective:
- To contribute to the definition of a collaborative framework for the coordination and collaboration between different ATM processes (including the so-called User Driven Prioritization Process (UDPP), dealing with delay constraints on arrivals
(considered the most important contributor to the performance issues.)
• Solution-track PJ.37-W3-03 Complement of PJ.01-W2-08B Dynamic E-TMA for Advanced Climb and Descent Operations with the main objective:
- To complement the work of PJ.01-W2-08B and enhance the management of the climb/descent phase of flight to optimize the efficiency of airspace, enabling the maximum use of continuous descent and continuous climb operations through advances in airspace design, development of
ground tools and development of ATC and airborne procedures.
The first Solution track has been split further into:
PJ.37-W3-01A Integrated Runway Throughput and Terminal Efficiency – arrival and approach operations having Objective 1A: Investigation of the benefits of wake turbulence separation optimization and flight-deck interval management integrated with CP1 AF-1 and AF-2 related functionalities.
PJ.37-W3-01B Integrated Runway Throughput and Terminal Efficiency – departure operation having Objective 1B: Demonstration of the benefits of departure pairwise separations aligning with the Airport Operations Plan (AOP) and the Network Operations Plan (NOP).
The overall importance for society is that the increased punctuality, reduced flight delays and improved flight efficiency are providing a substantial effect to the environmental sustainability.
This report covers the third and final reporting period (i.e. the period 1st of January 2023 till 30th of June 2023).
Main activities took place to update and finalize the contractual deliverable D1.4 i.e. the DEMO plan (DEMOP), with a third edition. But more important the Demonstration Report (DEMOR), contractual Deliverable D1.5 i.e. the document that reports on all the demonstration outcomes was finalized and issued. Both reports were SJU approved.
On 18th and 19th of April 2023 the Maturity Gates were held of the different Solution-tracks :
- PJ.37-W3-01A - Arrival Operations
- PJ.37-W3-01B - Departure Operations
- PJ.37-W3-03 / PJ.01-W2-08B
The Maturity Gates were successfully passed. It is noted that the complementary activities performed for project PJ.07-W2-39 (under Solution track PJ.37-W3-02) were made part of the Maturity Gate of PJ.07-W2-39.
The SESAR Solutions that were worked on (or applied) consisted of:
- PJ.02-01-01 - Optimised Runway Delivery on Final Approach
- PJ.02-01-02 - Optimised Separation Delivery for Departure
- PJ.02-01-04 - Wake Turbulence Separations (for Arrivals) based on Static Aircraft Characteristics
- PJ.02-01-06 - Wake Turbulence Separations (for Departures) based on Static Aircraft Characteristics
- PJ.02-08-03 - Reduced separation based on local Runway Occupancy Time characterisation
The abovePJ.02-Solutions all achieved TRL7-ongoing maturity status
- PJ.01-05 - Airborne spacing flight deck interval management, that remained at V2 maturity level
- PJ.07-39 - Collaborative framework managing delay constraints on arrivals (but without AUO-0109) reached the V3 maturity level.
For the complementary activities performed under Solution tracks PJ.37-W3-02 and PJ.37-W3-03 several partner contributions were made to the documents that were being created under PJ.01-W2-08B respectively PJ.07-W2-39 like to the updated Contextual Notes, OSED, TS/IR, CBA, and VALR, as to deliver the data packs for those solutions. The 08B5 updated Characterisation report was also delivered.
Also the Final Project Report (D1.3) overviewing all main results, was set up, delivered and SJU approved.
Related to communication and dissemination, the project's website was regularly updated, a project result overview was presented as a Showcase at the AirSpace World Conference held in March 2023 (Geneva). Papers were produced and an Open Day on the Arrival Streaming work was held at 15th of June 2023 by NATS, jointly with the projects VLD3-SORT and PJ.01-W2-EAD. Furthermore, NLR organised an online result session at 9th of June on their PJ.37-W3-01A two Real Time Simulations (RTSs) and Flight deck Interval Management Flight Test results, as well as a Stakeholder day at 13th of June, with demo visits to NARSIM and APERO facilities to explain the developed and evaluated Integrated arrival concept for Schiphol airport TMA operations. Exercise videos were produced and released at YouTube, via LinkedIn and via the SESAR3 communication channels.
Finally, several social media posts were generated around the dissemination events.
Full details of the work performed are contained within the periodic reports (RP01, RP02 and RP03 Part B) produced for this project.
The general conclusion is that the project has achieved all its goals set out in the SESAR2020 programme contract.
