Composite Solid Electrolyte development for all solid state Lithium BATTerieS (CSE-LBATTS)

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - CSE-LBATTS (Composite Solid Electrolyte development for all solid state Lithium BATTerieS (CSE-LBATTS))

Okres sprawozdawczy: 2023-06-25 do 2025-06-24

I have developed composite electrolytes for solid-state lithium batteries and advanced safety, energy density, and cycle life performance by designing nanostructured interfaces and electrolyte structures. The project improved our fundamental understanding of the role of nanostructured materials in ionic conductivity and interfacial properties of CSEs. I have acquired specialist expertise in designing nanostructured electrolytes and specialized in electrolyte chemistry and electrochemical reactions at the electrode and electrolyte interfaces.
The project addressed the limitations of lithium batteries, including safety risks, limited electrochemical stability. These challenges hinder the development of next-generation batteries for electric vehicles, grid storage, and portable electronics. As global energy demands increase and societies transition toward renewable energy and electrified transportation, advanced energy storage technologies are crucial. Solid-state electrolytes offer a promising path forward by enabling safer, longer-lasting, and higher-capacity lithium batteries. Developing reliable SSEs supports decarbonization efforts, enhances the performance of green technologies, and reduces dependency on fossil fuels.
The main objective of the project was to develop and optimize solid-state electrolyte materials that combine high ionic conductivity, electrochemical stability, mechanical robustness, and compatibility with lithium metal anodes. I successfully synthesized electrolytes with improved cycling stability and safety performance.
The 5 objectives stated in my proposal are
1) Develop nanostructured CSEs
2) Develop an enhanced interface between CSEs and electrodes
3) Develop ASSLBs by using CSE with an improved interface
4) To produce and begin the implementation of an advanced Innovation Management Plan
5) Use this project as a launch-pad to accelerate my international profile in the area of nanostructured materials with the aim of becoming a recognised leader in ASSLBs and CSEs technology innovation and I have worked on these objectives.

I have worked on these objectives and developed composite electrolytes, advanced interfaces and electrode structures.
I have developed composite electrolytes and advanced electrodes for long-lasting high performance batteries. I received a multi-disciplinary high-quality training, expanded my expertise in cutting-edge research, significantly expanded my skill set in fabrication and characterization techniques to understand a scientifically and commercially important issue, and developed my innovation and entrepreneurship skills. It taught me the best strategies in crafting large-scale grant applications. I attended seminars and workshops and trained students. The experience gained through this fellowship enhanced my career at unprecedented levels, both in Europe and globally. I have widened my EU and international research network, profiling myself and my pioneering work in European technology platforms such as Crowdhelix, and enhanced my career profile in other areas, including entrepreneurship and grantsmanship, via the training I received during this fellowship.

This project has accelerated my career by prototyping CSEs for ASSLBs, enhancing my international global network in academia and industry. This project has also enabled me to start my research group by undergoing an advanced training program under the unique blend of supervision by Dr Zhang and Prof Gürarslan . I learned about advanced production and characterization techniques for CSEs.
I have published research papers. I have collaborated with US partners on the preparation of papers and review articles. I have attended several scientific meetings, and project results were disseminated in meetings. I have established a regional and international network. I have been training 3 graduate students. Based on our scientific results, this project contributes to the competitiveness of Europe and holds great potential for economic impact.
