Versatile Amplification Method for Single-Molecule Detection in Liquid Biopsy

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - VerSiLiB (Versatile Amplification Method for Single-Molecule Detection in Liquid Biopsy)

Okres sprawozdawczy: 2022-04-01 do 2023-03-31

Project aims to develop a proof-of-concept of a novel in-vitro diagnostic system that combines the analysis of DNA and protein biomarkers into one proteogenomic test. Project is the first step to enable fast and easy-to-use proteogenomic tests that will be widely applicable in the diagnosis of several significant diseases including viral outbreaks, cancers, and neuro-degenerative, immune and cardiovascular diseases. In the end of the project, the developed technology will be validated for real-life cancer management in a clinical setting.
The work during the first year of the project has focused on
• Defining system requirements
• Development of the sensor test chemistry for protein and DNA assay
• Design and implementation of the first version of the microfluidic chip
• Design and testing the first hardware prototype
• Conducting simulations and theoretical analyses
• Development of reference tests and standards of truths
• Collection of clinical samples has been initiated
Work to develop diagnostic system based on novel Affinity Mediated Transport amplification method has been initiated in close collaboration of the highly multi-disciplinary consortium combining expertise in molecular biology, chemistry, physical sciences, engineering, and medicine. During the first year of the project, the consortium has focused on finding solutions to the joint challenges with test chemistry and hardware design. Once the system is successfully developed and its foreseen advantages are demonstrated, it has potential to impact widely to the proteogenomic analyses in medical but also in other application fields including e.g. environmental analytics.
