Periodic Reporting for period 1 - ENEN2plus (Building European Nuclear Competence through continuous Advanced and Structured Education and TrainingActions)
Okres sprawozdawczy: 2022-06-01 do 2023-11-30
Development, construction, operation, decommissioning, waste management and oversight of these facilities require personnel with excellent education, skills and motivation: nuclear specialists, that are equipped to work in multidisciplinary, multicultural and competitive environments.
ENEN2plus stands for the largest and most integrative nuclear Education and Training (E&T) efforts up to date in nuclear E&T.
Attraction of excellent new talents followed by outstanding development through E&T, cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary activities are the overarching objectives.
Excellent workforce should remain the basic enabler of safe long-term operation of existing and development of advanced facilities. A detailed insight into the EU supply and demand of nuclear human resources for power and non-power applications are being developed. This includes industries, academia, technical safety organizations and regulators.
Higher number of nuclear talents are being achieved through dedicated career-related events and competitions for high school pupils and teachers, students (BSc, MSC, PhD), postdocs and lifelong learners.
A strong mobility program supports over 100 person-years of nuclear career-enhancing experience to about 1.000 learners with over 2,5 million EUR.
Cross-border and cross-disciplinary mobility within and beyond EU are being promoted in cooperation with JRC, OECD/NEA and partners from USA, Canada, China, Korea and Japan.
A single hub will be established to provide information on available educational, training and job opportunities.
Appropriate connections with the complementary project facilitating access to research infrastructures will be maintained.
A centralized platform with coherent information on vocational training programs, developed during the project, will be established.
The overall objective was to evaluate the workforce required by the nuclear sector in Europe and to identify any gaps in terms of nuclear Education & Training to match the needs. This objective was fully achieved and three task forces were created: for the nuclear industry; for the research, safety, and waste management; for the non-energy applications.
WP2 – Informing and attracting new talents
The main objectives can be summarized as follows:
the development of one single point of entry for information on nuclear education, training, job opportunities, and access to facilities;
• several career events were organized resulting in more than 100 on site participants and several other tens online. we used a special software for speed-dating" where students could meet their possible employers. This resulted in 207 meeting. More than 11 recruiting companies participated. Weekly webinars are provided, each Friday
• promotion of courses offered through project and by entities outside the project; organizing events for PhDs and Master level students in 2022 and 2023.
• one summer school event was organized in Summer of 2023 for the outreach towards pupils and their teachers with dedicated competitions;
•one drawing contest was organized online with virtual arts which is now exposed in the EU buildings.
WP3 – Enhancing nuclear competencies: continuous E&T programs
The work performed during current reporting period:
• an analysis and benchmarking of existing E&T programs provided by other European projects was performed,
• MSc/PhD students events organized in 2022 and 2023
• the setup of networking cross-YG and cross-professional organizations to stimulate collaboration in the different nuclear fields is ongoing,
WP4 – Development of Sustainable Vocational Training Program and Network
The work performed during current reporting period:
• ta gap analysis was performed to analyse the existing Vocational Education and Training (VET) offered in the nuclear field,
• We identified critical jobs in the nuclear domain and specified vocational training that will contribute to resolving the criticality,
WP5 – Mobility schemes for nuclear talents
The WP aims at enhancing EURATOM competencies through mobility opportunities, including access to world-class infrastructures and job perspectives.
In particular, the WP objectives are:
• We developed, implemented and managed a comprehensive mobility scheme
• We established and implement links with project(s) supporting access to infrastructures (OFFERR project);
WP6 – Internationalization and stakeholder involvement
International organizations were engaged but for the moment we are missing an analysis of the E&T providers outside Europe
• Higher number of nuclear talents will be achieved through dedicated career related events and competitions for high school pupils and teachers, students (BSc, MSC, PhD), postdocs and lifelong learners. Multiple events were organized and they are fully described in the submitted reports.
• A strong mobility program will support over 100 person-years of nuclear career enhancing experience to about 1.000 learners with over 2,5 million EUR.
• Cross-border and cross-disciplinary mobility within and beyond EU will be promoted in cooperation with JRC, OECD/NEA and partners from USA, Canada, China, Korea and Japan.
• A single hub will be established to provide information on available educational, training and job opportunities.
• Appropriate connections with the complementary projects facilitating access to research infrastructures will be maintained.
