Periodic Reporting for period 2 - TRANS-lighthouses (More than green - Lighthouses of transformative nature-based solutions for inclusive communities)

TRANS-lighthouses aims to gather evidence on material and immaterial results of NBS in order to rethink and reframe the main elements that compose the complexity of creating social and ecologically just NBS. More than a driving process, the collaborative work on planning and making NBS functional might stimulate a more concerted response towards environmental and climate crises, increasing the commitment of different stakeholders and upscaling their own spheres of action. Adopts a non-linear perspective and opens up space for the adoption of a fluid and organic position that is able to integrate the diversity of subjects, institutions, knowledge(s), practices and values. The socio-politics dimension will be part of the public agenda for NBS towards SYSTEMIC CHANGE. This ambition will be achieved by assessing the benefits and limitations of NBS co-creation that have already been implemented and designed, tested and disseminated economically and socially fairer guidelines for NBS implementation. For this purpose, the project will conduct a thorough assessment, grounded on a transdisciplinary approach and critical analysis.
During the second reporting period (PR2), spanning 12 months from November 2024 to October 2025 (M19–M30), the consortium held two online meetings and one in-person meeting hosted at two pilot locations. The latter enabled site visits, exchanges with local actors, and roundtables with elected representatives. A technical visit was also organised in Madrid, focusing on the assessment case of biocomposting, including exchanges with key stakeholders and visits to rural and urban composting initiatives combining ecological objectives with collective and social economy practices.
Overall, 33 tasks were active during PR2, of which 5 were completed. A total of 11 deliverables and 3 milestones were achieved. Four deliverables were submitted on time (D1.7 D1.8 D4.3 D7.3) five with minor delays of 1–6 months without impact on the project workflow (D2.5 D3.2 D3.6 D4.7 D6.3) and two with significant delays of 8–13 months (D1.5 D6.2) which did not substantially affect project progress due to mitigation measures. Three milestones were fully achieved, while one was partially achieved.
Outreach effectiveness continued to be monitored through a comprehensive set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Of the 87 KPIs defined, 60 have been completed or exceeded, and the remaining 27 are ongoing or planned, ensuring that all KPIs are addressed. Communication outputs expanded to include learning cases, educational and animated videos, social media templates, serious games, and a pilot community engagement docu-film. Digital presence improved steadily, with increased website traffic, social media engagement, and newsletter subscriptions.
Dissemination activities built on four learning cases, two animated videos, serious gaming and gamified participatory budgeting tools. A Publication Strategy was developed to align partner capacities, coordinate author teams, and structure outputs around emerging research questions per work package. This strategy supports timely delivery of at least seven peer-reviewed publications, ten policy briefs, and a minimum of ten contributions to international conferences.
Networking with associated partners continued through regular meetings and bilateral exchanges. Seven partner-led initiatives were developed, four of which were completed during PR2, while three are ongoing. North–South knowledge exchange was strengthened through two international workshops on ecofeminist perspectives, held in Buenos Aires (May 2025) and Coimbra (June 2025), and a mini-series of three thematic webinars on ecofeminism, social solidarity, and education.
Collaboration with sibling projects COEVOLVERS and NATURESCAPES continued through joint participation in conferences, a Spring School organised by NATURESCAPES, and the planning of three joint policy briefs and a potential final joint event. The project also contributed to several Network Nature NBS Task Forces, including on inclusivity, resulting in an European Commission expert report.
Significant progress was made in developing and aligning conceptual frameworks across work packages, including frameworks on reciprocal human–nature relationships, governance archetypes for NBS, social mobilisation, citizen engagement, and reflexive monitoring.

During the span of the second reporting of the project, November 2024 to October 2025, assessment activities require relatively advanced stages of pilot implementation to generate meaningful, reliable, and robust evidence. Given the project’s 3.5-year duration, this structural requirement has created timing constraints, leading to the rescheduling of Deliverable D3.3 from Month 36 (M36) to Month 41 (M41). The assessment process has also had to run in parallel with ongoing cycles of evidence production, including data collection, processing, and analysis for transferability, while simultaneously responding to the operational demands of pilot implementation. This overlap has placed significant pressure on time, coordination, and institutional capacity, all of which are critical to safeguarding both the innovativeness of project activities and the quality of the evidence produced.
