A preliminary filing will be prepared by collecting all the material data of the correspondence: name of the correspondent, brief biographical research, reason for the epistolary contact, consistency of the material; after constructing a sufficiently complete map of the correspondence, the data thus collected will be divided into groups, organized according to a geographical and chronological criterion and taking into account whether or not to belong to the community to the Israelite community. The preserved letters range from the thirties until 1999, on the eve, therefore, of the death of the writer; but for the purposes of this research, it is appropriate to consider only the post-war literary production, between 1945 and 1979; at a first reconnaissance, Bassani's foreign correspondents are about sixty, for a total of about 400 letters within the established parameters. Of a major part of the letters is also preserved in the archive the copy of the answers sent by Bassani; but there is a real possibility of finding new letters in the archives and libraries of intellectuals, translators, publishing houses, Italian cultural institutes, institutions connected to literary prizes. The fact that most of them are prominent intellectuals, whose papers are often already deposited in the archives of institutions, will facilitate the operations of requesting authorization to use the materials and publish them. A formally request will be sent to the interlocutors or their heirs. The data collected will then be studied according to multidisciplinary perspective indicated in the project and published in whole or in part, as appropriate.
