A literature review on fluid-coupled particle scale models and open-source software to realistically simulate submarine sediments
(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie)
There has been a large body of literature on fluid-coupled particle-based methods, such as unresolved or fully resolved Computational Fluid Dynamics-DEM and Pore Finite Volume-DEM. The modelling of realistic particle shapes is also becoming feasible computationally. An initial step is to review existing approaches to model the pore-scale hydrodynamic coupling of submarine soil from quasi-static to fast flowing regimes. Furthermore, we will investigate the capability and limitations of widely used open-source software packages, and discuss the possibility to integrate realistic particle shapes and pore-scale hydrodynamics.
Formulation and algorithm for 3D PFEM and MPM
(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie)
A preliminary version of a unified formulation for modelling soil-water-structure interaction will be delivered. The complete set of equations governing the interaction among saturated slow- and fast-flowing porous media (subsea soil) non-Newtonian fluid (sea water)and solid (structure) will be implemented in the framework of particle finite element method for large deformation analysis, and compared with a volume-coupled formulation of multi-phase MPM.

A generic statistical framework for quantification and propagation of uncertainties in soil strength parameters
(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie)
Established a Bayesian approach-based framework is for combining prior information and limited data, quantifying different components of uncertainty, and facilitating their propagation. The generic statistical framework will improve procedures and guidelines for obtaining probabilistic predictions of soil strength parameters to be used in reliability-based offshore foundation designs.
