The CITT project aimed at enhancing territorial cooperation in the bordering regions of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary - the so called Centrope region in the ICT sector in general and at the commercialisation of academic research and involvement of businesses (especially SME) in R&D in particular. The core goal was laying the ground for a 'Centrope ICT network action plan' with a strong focus on technology transfer.

CITT is the first transregional project that deals with essential and innovative topics such as the mapping of the whole ICT Centrope sector, building up a virtual ICT community; an ICT cluster study, a technology transfer channel tool, and business support measures in detail - each single topic would be worth to be treated in a separate project.

The second half of the project from January 2009 until March 2010 proved to be the most important one given the fact that the project team worked a huge part of the year 2009 on the cluster action plan (WP 4). In addition to that all WP contributed to the network to be and the final event in March 2010 has been an appropriate context to draw conclusions and to open up new perspectives.

The basis for the 'Centrope ICT network action plan' has been laid in 2009 within WP 4 (led by BITERAP). The action plan offers a clear vision of a future Centrope ICT cluster including a comprehensive three level 'pyramid' business structure from basic to top-member services. Based on an in-depth market research and a benchmarking of clusters in Europe an ICT network strategy and business plan for the first years of operation have been developed. The ICT cluster will be organised with a central headquarters (limited liability company), local regional subsidiaries and local associations as owners and a board of directors as well as an advisory board. Finally a Centrope ICT network action plan has been elaborated that describes in detail how the cluster will be set up in three phases over a period of three years.

The other WP all contributed systematically to the establishment of the 'Centrope ICT network action plan'. While partners kept gathering data in WP1 about the ICT sector of Centrope, the project's weblog (WP2, led by FIP) provided a lively basis to disseminate results and ideas, to network with SME and researchers and to enable readers to provide feedback easily. In WP 3 (led by BITERAP) the R&D platform-software CETEX has been tested and fine-tuned. It is now available in all four Centrope languages. It is a platform for contributors ('owners of technologies or know-how'), consumers ('subjects looking for technology or know-how'), the areas of research results and innovations ('offers') and demands for cooperation, ideas development concerning innovations, patents, research results and other topics regarding technology transfer ('requests').

In WP 5 (led by CEconsult) 'Mentoring, business support measures, dissemination activities' the marketing and dissemination activities continued while important deliverables that comprise an analysis of ICT related best practice examples for technology transfer in Centrope were delivered. Finally in March 2010 a final conference 'First ICT clustering & technology transfer conference in Centrope' gathered around 100 experts from the region in a lively discussion in the Media Tower in Vienna.
